Downed game recovery

What is this?

When you have shot an animal and have exhausted all resources to find it, please call us. The first step will be to discuss the shot placement, after which we will decide whether to search immediately or wait for a while for the animal to expire. We will then direct you to our "Downed Game Recovery Form" on our webpage, where you can find the rules and regulations that both you and we must follow. Filling out this questionnaire will allow us to verify your understanding of the guidelines and send the information directly to my phone for review.

Upon reviewing your form, we will check the airspace we intend to fly in, and if everything is in order, we will call you to establish a time and place to meet. Once we arrive at the scene, we will set up our blind, heater, and other necessary equipment. Using Google Maps on our drone's receiver, we will determine where the animal was shot, the direction it ran, and the location of the last blood. The search will begin with what we call a "lawnmower" search, systematically flying the drone's camera in patterns while using a thermal camera to detect heat signatures. If we find a signature, we will further investigate with a night vision camera, and you will help identify if it is your animal by watching the feed.

If we find your animal but it is not dead, you will be informed, and our flight will conclude without revealing its location. If it’s not your animal, we will continue the search, utilizing a generator and multiple batteries to maximize our flying time. Once we confirm that your animal has expired, we will give you the location for retrieval. Charges are based on the distance traveled from Warrens, WI, at a rate of $0.75 per mile round trip, with a minimum charge of $200 for the first hour of flight, reducing to $150 per hour thereafter. Most searches typically take 1 to 2 hours, although some can be quicker or longer.

Adam's Experince

Since 2023, Adam has been helping hunters find their quarry, leveraging a lifetime of hunting and tracking from his childhood. His journey began with his service as an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, where he operated robots in various scenarios. After leaving the military, Adam recognized the potential of drones as an essential tool for search and rescue operations as well as for assisting hunters. He completed training with Drone Pilot Ground School and earned his Part 107 FAA UAS license, leading to the establishment of Kodra's Drone Service LLC. In the inaugural year, the service achieved an impressive 95% find rate. Committed to enhancing their capabilities, Adam upgraded the drone to the Autel EEVOMAX 4N, which features advanced thermal and night vision cameras, along with a laser range finder. In spring 2024, he also completed a course in drone mapping, allowing the team to conduct detailed surveys of areas like golf courses and private properties for deer analysis.

By fall 2024, Adam expanded their toolkit to include a manlift, which helped improve aerial operations by allowing him to get above the tree line for better communication and drone oversight. This adjustment contributed to a recovery rate increase to 98%. In summer 2025, he retested for his Part 107 UAS license and passed, ensuring that the service remained compliant and up-to-date. To further elevate the experience for clients, Adam began arriving on-site with an array of equipment, including a 4000W generator, remote viewing screen, and a waterproof hunting blind. The team also enhanced their drone capabilities with a spotlight and an additional gimbal for extreme zoom. This comprehensive setup allows hunters to stay dry and warm regardless of the weather. As of October 11th, 2025, Kodra's Drone Service proudly boasts a perfect 100% success rate for finding wounded game, and Adam is determined to maintain this streak throughout the season.
